UFC: Frank Mir Embarrassed by Brock Lesnar’s Post Fight Tirade

Frank Mir may have lost to Brock Lesnar the rematch at UFC 100 but he appears to have won the public after Lesnar went on a tirade of spit and trash-talking. And despite Lesnar's apology for being a sore winner, he remains embarrassed and unimpressed.

During the UFC post fight celebration, Lesnar flipped off an aggressive crowd which had been booing the decision, buried the PPV's primary sponsor Bud Light, promoting Coors Light instead, and implied he would have sex with his wife after the show. Later, he apologized for his actions in his post-fight press conference after UFC head Dana White scolded him for vamping like a WWE wrestler.

"That's like: You steal a guy's bike, your dad kicks your ass, and then you apologize only because your dad kicked your ass. How genuine is that? I don't buy it," Mir told Reviewjournal.com's Doug Elfman.

Evidently, Lesnar, 32, went into the match with a chip on his shoulder. Mir, 30, had beat Lesnar in February 2008. During the UFC 100 event, Lesnar wouldn't tap gloves with Mir before the bout. That's disrespectful, though Mir calls it "no big deal." Lesnar beat Mir in two rounds, and Mir gave him props. However, once the referee stopped the fight, Lesnar yelled in Mir's bloody face.

"When I stood up, and he's screaming, it took me a few seconds to realize [what Lesnar was doing]" Mir said.

Mir is already planning to train for a "rubber match" rematch. He's presently doing power lifting to boost his weight and close in on Lesnar.

"If I can just nail that gap to even 10 pounds, it'll be a different fight next time," Mir said. "Hopefully next time, I'll show him how somebody is supposed to act in victory."

Floyd Mayweather vs Miguel Cotto fight goes up against UFC on FOX 3

HOLLYWOOD, CA - MARCH 01: Floyd Mayweather smiles during a press conference to promote his upcoming fight against Miguel Cotto on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on March 1, 2012 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Jeff Gross/Getty Images)

Next month, on May 5, 2012, the UFC will return to FOX for the third time since the promotion reached a historic seven-year deal with the broadcast network late last year.

While all eyes in the mixed martial arts world will be trained on the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, there is another major combat sports event taking place that very same evening, as superstar boxer Floyd "Money" Mayweather will take on Miguel Cotto in a light middleweight bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Joy.

MMAMania.com will be providing coverage of the event from the lead up right on through until the final question has been asked at the post-fight press conference. We'll begin by providing a quick introduction to the fight as well as some of the recent promotional happenings relating to it.

Let's get to it.

Star-divide

While most casual fans of boxing are likely taking the approach that unless Mayweather is fighting Manny Pacquiao, they aren't really all that interested, die hard fans of the sweet science should recognize that this fight is certainly one of the great challenges of Mayweather's career. Consider:

  • Mayweather has only fought in the light middleweight division (154 pounds) one other time, a split decision victory over "Golden Boy" Oscar De La Hoya back in 2007. De La Hoya was in the twilight of his career, and while the decision was somewhat controversial in the respect that most thought it should have been unanimous and not split, the fact remains that it has been one of the closest bouts of Mayweathers career.
  • When they fought, De La Hoya was 34, Mayweather 30. This time around, the tables are turned, with Mayweather the elder statesman, having just turned 35, four years older than the 31-year-old Cotto.
  • The two losses on Cotto's record are both somewhat defensible. He was stopped via TKO by Manny Pacquiao in round 12 of a 145-pound catchweight fight in 2009 and he was stopped via TKO by Antonio Margarito in round 11 of a welterweight (147-pounds) title fight the year prior, a fight which many believe to be tainted after Margarito was caught with loaded handwraps in his very next fight.

In a clip from the HBO promotional vehicle "Face Off" shown last weekend, Mayweather alludes to this last point, stating that he views Cotto as an undefeated fighter. The clip is worth a viewing if only because it reveals some of the differences in the way boxing fights and MMA fights are promoted. Check it out:

The show is heavily stylized, with host Max Kellerman (one of the great sports talk radio personalities of all time) taking turns asking leading questions to the two combatants. Mayweather doesn't seem particularly interested in building any hype for the fight during the segment, as he was pre-occupied with a $100,000 sports bet that he had on the go, but he was very respectful of Cotto in the statements that he did make.

"Face Off" differs from the typical UFC "Countdown" fare that we are used to in the MMA world in a couple of ways. It brings the fighters together in a studio setting and we get to hear the questions being asked of them, unlike the narrated and heavily edited "Primetime." During the lead up to this weekend's UFC 145 we saw Rashad Evans and Jon Jones get together for a similar question and answer session with Jon Anik on Fuel TV's "Ultimate Insider." Is the UFC taking a page out of HBO's fight promotion book? They'd likely never admit it but I get the sense they are paying close attention.

As the combat sports spectacular gets closer, the tired MMA vs. Boxing debates will inevitably get brought up by pot stirring journalists whose imaginations have failed them, ignoring the logical assumption that fight fans are fight fans and a rather large chunk will be watching both the UFC on FOX 3 and Mayweather vs. Cotto events.

Lorenzo Fertitta pointed out that fact earlier this week, noting that the decision to again put a UFC on FOX event on the same night as a major boxing pay-per-view (you might recall that the first UFC on FOX show went down on the same night as Manny Pacquiao's last fight) was largely made by FOX executives (courtesy of MMA Fighting):

"That's kind of FOX's deal. They do all the research; they're really smart guys. The theory is that people are home. It's a great fight night; you're going to watch Pacquiao or whatever; you can turn on FOX, you can watch our fight; you'll have a great night."

Seems like a reasonable approach to me, especially when you remember the nearly nine million viewers that tuned in to watch Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez fight for the UFC heavyweight title.

Will the approach work again? Both the UFC and FOX would certainly love to see the ratings jump back up after they declined for the second show this January, and Mayweather is definitely the biggest stateside attraction in combat sports both at the box office and in the media coverage he receives. Will he hog the spotlight in the next couple of weeks and take away from the UFC event? Or will the eventual viewing numbers on fight night reveal a mutually beneficial result?

And what about the fight itself? Does the bigger, stronger and younger Cotto present a real challenge to Mayweather? Or is he simply a stepping stone to the fight that everyone wants to see?

Let me know what you think, Maniacs.

Finally got a computer that works

Go figure that this is my old computer that nearly destroyed when trying to fix it with a couple of tire irons and a and some tins nips but this is a long story but I call my computer the frankienstien because it looked so bad and had the side missing from it by it worked good. When I was selling T-shirts at the time a friend of mine let me used portion of his tattoo shop to sell it with his logo on the back he let me set up for free.I did graphics for him and I had his logo and diffent designs that his artist had created on my computer I had it all set up nice in his shop it was really cool.He took a % after the sale of the t-shirts I also sold novelty gifts at the shop as well. This was a great deal for both of us.

One year times were hard so he had to close one shop down and moved for a little bit After he left and months went by I neglected to take my T-Shirts,the racks,my novelty items and my computer out of his shop this was stupid of me but to make a long story my ugly computer and some racks were the only things left at the shop everything else was gone.It turned out that the people who took the stuff in the shop thought the computer was junk and left it there lol.

I am sure glad they did this old computer turns out to be one of the most important thing I own lol it got me out many jams.

UFC on Fox 3 prelims shaken up with injuries to Johnny Bedford, Darren Uyenoyama

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

UFC_on_Fox_3_Poster_180_2.jpg

Next month's UFC on Fox 3 event has gotten a couple of shakeups on the preliminary card, with injuries removing both Darren Uyenoyama and Johnny Bedford from their respective matchups on the card.

Uyenoyama was scheduled to take on Ultimate Fighter season 14 winner John Dodson in a flyweight matchup, but Dodson will now take on UFC newcomer Tim Elliott. Dodson won the bantamweight tournament of season 14 in December, knocking out T.J. Dillashaw in the finals. Elliott enters with an 8-2-1 record, winning eight straight fights into this debut after a three-fight winless start to his career.

Bedford's injury means a new opponent for Canada's Nick Denis, and he'll now meet Bedford's TUF 14 teammate Roland Delorme, according to BJPenn.com. Denis made his UFC debut with a highly impressive TKO finish over Joseph Sandoval in January, ending the night early with a quick succession of elbows. Delorme made a successful UFC debut at the TUF 14 finale in December, taking out Josh Ferguson by submission to move his career record to 7-1.

London 2012 Olympics: time is running out to get things right for the Games

Not long now: a visitor takes a photo of the Olympic Stadium before the crowds descend (Photo: AFP)

Are we ready for the biggest peacetime party/celebration/sportsfest in our lifetime? House spruced up, new frock sorted, tickets at the ready, taxi booked?

Uh. No.  It is just 100 days on Wednesday until the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games and for a city and country that has had seven years to prepare there is an awful lot of last-minute organisation. Time compresses and quickens the closer the Olympics looms, and suddenly there are a few people on the inside starting to ready their fingers for the panic button ? with good reason.

Even the much hyped on-time, on-budget big ticket items ? the Olympic venues ? aren't quite ready. Indeed quite a few of them are not yet built, being last-minute temporary constructions.

Visitors are impressed with the sparkling finished architectural icons of the Stadium, the Velodrome, the Aquatics Centre, and increasingly too of the roller coaster ArcelorMittal tower, but are left scratching their heads at the roadworks, heavy trucks and persistent deliveries.

Even some of the most critical elements ? the communications networks ? are still being fitted. Fingers crossed all of those tight deadlines are met.

But the organisers can take heart that all of the tickets have been sold, right? Hmm, not quite. There are four million still unsold, most of them to the big venue football stadiums and the Paralympics. But there will be more than one million tickets released to existing ticket subscribers ? those two-thirds of people who applied unsuccessfully last year for seats. This sale will probably go ahead in early May, a date that keeps getting pushed back.

OK, but everyone in London has been whingeing about the crowded trains during the Games and have surely planned to work from home or change their working patterns to alleviate the transport stress?

Take a deep breath, but no.  Survey after survey shows Londoners to be a complacent lot. "The Olympics? That's months away."  The latest MWB Business Exchange shows only 11 per cent of firms are planning on staff to work remotely and 18 per cent have reviewed annual leave. Nearly a third of companies haven't made any contingency plans for the Olympics even though 89 per cent of them believe the Games will affect them.

But, relax,  just like any good party planning there are others to take on the tension, heated debate and nose-to-nose swearing in lifts.

The Olympics has indeed hotted up, with the doozy of a battle between the Mayor of London candidates incumbent Boris Johnson and Ken Livingstone in early May.

Boris wants to make sure London benefits long term from the Games, especially given the council tax contributions everyone has been making. Ken, who was Mayor when London won the Games back in 2005, says he will make sure the sponsor fat cats don't have access to the special Olympic lanes.

It might be news too for the 10,500 athletes, 550 of them from Team GB, but Ken also says the Olympics is not about sport.

Wrong, it is indeed a race for everyone. Against time. The clock is ticking.

Lee Westwood wins Indonesian Masters

The world No3 held an eight-shot lead after three rounds in Jakarta.

But a two-over-par final round of 74 left Westwood just two clear of Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand.

Westwood had to come back early this morning to complete the final 14 holes of his third round after rain delays on Saturday.

And the Worksop wonder admitted he struggled to cope with fatigue.

He said: ?Today was hard. It is never easy playing in these conditions and I had to play 32 holes.

?It was draining out there and I was really feeling it on the back nine.

"When you are in contention and under pressure, it seems to zap your energy faster.

?You never know how to play with such a big lead. You don?t know if you should attack or defend. It is quite hard to get your mental attitude around it.

?Hopefully this will kick-start my year. I?ve played well without any wins so hopefully I can go on and win other tournaments.?

South Africa?s BRANDEN GRACE won his third tournament of the year with a three-shot victory over defending champion Nicolas Colsaerts in the Volvo China Open.

Jon Jones, Rashad Evans? UFC 145 feud affects teammates and coaches, too

With the ongoing feud between former friends and training partners Rashad Evans and Jon Jones, it's easy to just focus on the crumbled relationship between the two men. After all, it's their shared dislike that has made their march to UFC 145 so interesting.

But fighters don't train in a vacuum. They have coaches and training partners who walk every step with the fighter until that last one into the Octagon. A fighter's team will live and breathe that bout, which is why so many fighters refer to themselves as "we" when talking about their fights. Jones and Evans' feud ripped apart more than their friendship. It pulled Evans away from Greg Jackson, the coach and friend he had worked with for years.

For the first time, Jackson will look across the cage at Evans. He made that decision after getting advice from Mike Winkeljohn, Jackson's partner in their MMA gym in New Mexico. Winkeljohn told Bleacher Report why he wanted Jackson to corner Jones:

But he upset me in that he kept throwing Greg under the bus. Enough is enough. You have your disagreements, I understand that, but there's more important things out there. And it's time for Greg to work in Jon's corner. Jon's here everyday, helping everybody else out. I mean Jon's that guy. He goes out of his way to help everybody here on the team. So I told Greg, "work his corner."

Though fighting is a business and everyone is expected to act like a professional, that doesn't make it easy for Jackson to work against a fighter he helped build.
